National Secretary Of PDP Calls Out Imo Government Over Erosion ThreatsThe National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu, has criticized the Imo State government for the ecological disaster affecting the Ideato North and South local government areas. He attributed the ongoing erosion crisis in the Ideato federal constituency to the administration led by Senator Hope Uzodimma, which he claims sabotaged the N10 billion World Bank Erosion Control Project intended for the region.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Ikenna Onuoha, Anyanwu expressed that the hardships currently faced by the constituents could have been avoided. He argued that the Uzodimma administration’s failure to adhere to the project’s contract guidelines has allowed erosion to wreak further havoc on the Ideato community.

Anyanwu, who was the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate in Imo State in 2023, condemned the All Progressives Congress (APC) government, labeling it as insensitive, non-proactive, and irresponsible. He stated, “A responsible administration should not need praise from citizens to fulfill its duties. However, the APC-led government in Imo has downplayed its obligations for personal gain.”

He highlighted the struggles of the Ideato community and others in the state who find it challenging to access the state capital due to poor road conditions, despite the government’s substantial resources. He described the situation as “unwholesome, pathetic, and harmful to the state’s future.”

Anyanwu criticized Uzodimma’s administration for abruptly terminating a contract with the World Bank aimed at addressing erosion issues in the Ideato region, simply because the government’s request to oversee the project and the payment of a N500 million counterpart fund was denied. He posed a critical question: if the government could treat its citizens in such a manner, what other benefits could the Uzodimma administration possibly provide?

“It is regrettable to state that had the Uzodimma-led APC administration allowed this project to proceed, the severe erosion problems in Ideato North and South could have been effectively addressed. The government must recognize that it was elected to serve the people and stop acting as though the citizens of Imo have no stake in their state.
