The decision, announced in a statement on Thursday by police spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi, is aimed at ensuring a peaceful, transparent, and credible election process.
As part of the preparations, the IGP has appointed Deputy Inspector-General Sylvester Alabi as the coordinating officer for election security. Assistant Inspector-General Bennett Igweh and Commissioner of Police Tunji Disu have been designated as AIG and CP elections, respectively, to oversee security operations during the election.
The statement also highlighted movement restrictions within Ondo State on election day, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. These measures will apply to roads, waterways, and other transport services, with exceptions for essential services like ambulances, media personnel, and fire services.
“To prevent disruptions, security aides and escorts attached to VIPs are banned from entering polling booths and collation centers,” the IGP’s statement read. The use of sirens by unauthorized vehicles will also be prohibited, and unauthorized security personnel will not be allowed to operate.
Special provisions will be made at polling stations to accommodate individuals with disabilities, pregnant women, nursing mothers, and others with mobility challenges. Additionally, dedicated election lines will be available for public inquiries and reporting of incidents.
