One Feared Dead As Gunmen Abduct Journalists Headed To Uyo For Super Eagles MatchA group of sports journalists traveling to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to cover an African Nations Cup qualifier between the Super Eagles and Libya were ambushed by gunmen while passing through Anambra State. According to reports, nine journalists have been rescued, though one is feared dead, and four are still being held by the kidnappers.
The Anambra State Police Command confirmed the incident, with spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga stating that police teams were swiftly deployed to secure the release of the journalists. Ikenga explained, “We received the information from social media yesterday and immediately launched an operation. A joint effort is ongoing, though we are unsure if some of them remain in captivity or managed to escape.”
While the details of the rescue efforts are still emerging, authorities continue to work to secure the safe release of the remaining journalists.
