Ooni Reveals Emotional Struggles Behind Delay In Starting A Family

In a statement issued on Saturday in Ile-Ife by the Director of Media and Public Affairs at the Ooni’s Palace, Moses Olafare, the monarch revealed that he endured mockery from members of the public during that period.

The Ooni shared the experience while receiving guests who visited to celebrate the birth of twin princes delivered by one of his wives, Queen Mariam Ogunwusi.

Expressing gratitude, the monarch said he was thankful to God for the new additions to the royal family, noting that nothing is impossible with divine intervention.

Oba Ogunwusi also disclosed that he never imagined he would marry multiple wives while growing up, explaining that the realities and traditional expectations attached to the throne eventually changed the course of his personal life.

According to him, his journey since becoming the Ooni of Oduduwa has been filled with unexpected experiences and difficult challenges.

He recounted how he came under pressure shortly after ascending the throne to quickly settle into royal marital responsibilities.

The monarch further revealed that several respected traditional rulers and influential figures attempted to persuade his former wife to relocate to Ile-Ife at the time, but the effort was unsuccessful.

Reflecting on his younger years, the Ooni said he became a father at the age of 19, describing it as one of the most difficult moments of his life.

He admitted that the responsibility initially overwhelmed him, but credited his mother for encouraging him to remain focused, hardworking, and determined despite the challenges.

Oba Ogunwusi also expressed appreciation to Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, for her support and encouragement over the years, describing her as a mother figure who stood by him during difficult periods.

The traditional ruler thanked visitors for their prayers, support, and goodwill, adding that the mother of the twins also conveyed her appreciation to everyone who supported her.
