In a Facebook post on Saturday, Gumi said combating terrorism is a religious duty but criticised the involvement of individuals he accused of being responsible for the deaths of innocent civilians.

According to him, “It’s a religious obligation to annihilate terrorists, but not with Beelzebub and hands stained with the blood of innocent men, women, and children.”

His comments came after Donald Trump announced that U.S. forces, working alongside the Nigerian military, successfully carried out an operation in Africa that resulted in the death of al-Minuki.

In a statement posted on his Truth Social account on Saturday, Trump said the mission followed extensive intelligence gathering and strategic coordination.

The U.S. president described al-Minuki as one of the most active ISIS figures, alleging that he played a major role in coordinating attacks and supporting terrorist operations targeting Americans and African communities.

Trump added that the operation would significantly weaken ISIS activities globally and reduce the extremist group’s influence across Africa.

He also praised the Nigerian government and military authorities for their cooperation during the operation.
