Ooni Strengthens Sunday Igboho’s Security Outfit With ₦100m Cash, Hilux Pickup

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has donated ₦100 million and a brand-new Hilux vehicle to the Iru Ekun Security Network, a community security outfit established by Yoruba Nation advocate, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.

The donation was announced on Tuesday when Igboho and members of the security outfit paid a courtesy visit to the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

Speaking during the visit, the Ooni described the security initiative as a timely effort to complement existing security agencies and strengthen the protection of lives and property across Yorubaland. He praised Igboho for his commitment to the safety and welfare of the Yoruba people, stressing that safeguarding communities is a shared responsibility that goes beyond political, religious and ideological differences.

The monarch urged traditional rulers, business leaders, professionals and other stakeholders to support the Iru Ekun Security Network, noting that unity remains key to tackling insecurity and promoting sustainable development in the region.

He said every Yoruba son and daughter has a role to play in preserving peace and advancing the collective interests of the region, adding that meaningful progress can only be achieved in a secure environment.

In his response, Sunday Igboho expressed gratitude to the Ooni for the financial support, the Hilux vehicle and his royal endorsement. He described the monarch as a symbol of unity and a respected leader whose commitment to the Yoruba people continues to inspire many.

Igboho said the visit also provided an opportunity to brief the Ooni on the activities of the Iru Ekun Security Network and seek his continued guidance. He announced plans to convene a summit of traditional rulers from across Yorubaland, subject to the Ooni’s approval, to discuss practical solutions to the region’s security challenges.

He assured that the Iru Ekun Security Network would operate within the law, work closely with relevant security agencies and local communities, and focus on community policing, intelligence gathering and promoting peace throughout Yorubaland.
