A passenger on one of the vehicles, who spoke to PUNCH Metro on the condition of anonymity for security reasons, reported that the robbers, estimated to be around eight in number, stopped a commercial bus coming from Lagos and a private car. They ordered all passengers to disembark, demanding money and ATM cards, which they used to make transfers to their accounts.

“The robbers attacked both the bus and the private car. I was on the bus. We were between Ife and Osu when they stopped us. They were armed with guns,” the passenger said. “The bus driver was shot but survived with injuries. One woman from the car was raped. They collected our money and ATM cards, forced us to transfer funds, and later returned our cards to one of their members.”

During the attack, some passengers managed to escape into the bush. They later informed nearby individuals who alerted security personnel. Shortly after the robbers left, police, vigilantes, and personnel from the Nigeria Hunters and Forest Security Service arrived to search the area. One suspect was arrested and taken into custody.

Osun State’s acting Police Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Giwa-Alade, confirmed the arrest. “The incident occurred, and we have apprehended one suspect who is currently assisting with the investigation,” Giwa-Alade stated.
