Reportedly, last Friday, Adeleke led a delegation of PDP leaders from Osun State to meet Makinde at the Oyo State Government House Lodge in Abuja.

The visit is noteworthy in the context of the recent PDP discord, notably the faction of PDP governors, including Makinde, known as the G5, who abstained from endorsing and campaigning for the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, during the 2023 election….CONTINUE READING

In contrast, Adeleke was appointed as the South-West regional coordinator of the PDP campaign and enjoyed the support of Atiku during his gubernatorial bid in 2022.

According to sources, Adeleke’s visit to Makinde centered around discussions regarding the upcoming appointment of the next National Vice Chairman (South-West) of the PDP.

An insider revealed that the visit by Adeleke to Makinde took both party members and political observers by surprise. The source stated, “The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, did something unexpected last Friday by making a surprise visit to his Oyo State counterpart, Seyi Makinde, at the Oyo State Governor’s lodge in Abuja.”

Another source provided insights into the visit’s purpose, stating that Adeleke sought Makinde’s support and endorsement for his preferred candidate to succeed the late National Vice Chairman (South-West) of the PDP, Hon Soji Adagunodo.

Allegedly, Adeleke already has three candidates in mind for the role, and he seeks the backing of Makinde and other concerned PDP members.

The sources also revealed that during this behind-the-scenes meeting, Adeleke went to great lengths, including reportedly kneeling, to seek forgiveness from Makinde for any misunderstandings or grievances that might have arisen between them. These actions, however, have sparked varied responses within the party.

An aggrieved member of the Atiku Campaign Organization in the South-West expressed discontent with Adeleke’s approach, stating, “This situation occurred on Friday night in Abuja when Adeleke, accompanied by some of his commissioners and party chieftains, implored Makinde to pardon him for any possible wrongs.

Although we don’t personally hold any grudges against Governor Makinde, except for his actions during and after the 2023 general elections where he supported an opposition presidential candidate, we find such a demeaning attitude unbecoming of Adeleke, who led the party in the same elections in the South-West.”
