Expressing his concern for the recent tragic events in Ekiti and Kwara states, where three monarchs lost their lives, Oba Akanbi decried the erosion of traditional values and the diminishing respect for traditional rulers by some of their peers.

In his own words, the Oluwo declared, “No bandit or kidnapper can assail me on this earthly plane. They may attempt it, only to confront the formidable authority vested in me. The institution of kingship is divinely ordained, and I serve as the representative of God; hence, neither death nor abduction can befall me. However, the disheartening situation in Yoruba land, where kings are arbitrarily dethroned and subjected to servitude to the government, is an abomination.”

Oba Akanbi emphasized the paramount role of acknowledging God in the preservation of the sanctity and inviolability of the institution of kingship. He warned that when kings neglect this divine connection, they invite turmoil and challenges. The monarch called for a restoration of respect for traditional rulers, lamenting the unsettling trend of kings being displaced without regard for their sacred roles in the cultural and spiritual fabric of society.
