The Osun State Police Command has announced the successful arrest of two armed robbery suspects in Osogbo. Identified as Adesina Hammed (29) and Oyeladun Iyanu (28), the suspects, alongside two accomplices who are currently at large, allegedly wielded cutlasses to rob two unidentified victims on June 5 around the Olaiya area of Osogbo.
According to police spokesperson Yemisi Opalola, the suspects intercepted the victims, who were traveling on a motorcycle, and coerced them to a Point of Sale terminal, where they forcefully confiscated N400,000. Additionally, the victims’ iPhone 13 was seized and later sold for N140,000 within Osogbo.
Opalola emphasized that the arrests were made possible through public reports and media alerts regarding rising incidents of criminal activities, including kidnapping and extortion, perpetrated by what she described as “mini kidnappers” in Osogbo.
“In response to numerous complaints received via petitions and social media platforms such as Twitter and Instagram, the Osun State Police Command swiftly apprehended the suspects,” Opalola stated.
Furthermore, in a separate incident, the command also detained Yusuf Adamu, a Kebbi State native, caught in possession of a suspected stolen electricity cable following reports from concerned citizens in Ede.
Opalola affirmed that the police force remains resolute in its commitment to apprehend all individuals associated with criminal activities in the state, urging the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement efforts.
The arrests highlight ongoing efforts by the Osun State Police Command to curb criminal activities and maintain public safety across the state.
