Osun Poll: Adeleke Reveals Why Oyinlola Is Fighting His Re-Election

Published

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has alleged that former governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola is opposed to his re-election because of what he described as jealousy towards the Adeleke family.

Adeleke made the claim on Tuesday during the Arise TV News Osun 2026 Governorship Town Hall in Osogbo.

The governor was responding to a question from one of the panellists about his strained relationship with Oyinlola, a former governor of the state and fellow member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and whether the disagreement could affect his chances of winning the August 15 governorship election.

According to Adeleke, Oyinlola has consistently worked against members of the Adeleke family, alleging that the former governor opposed his late elder brother and political mentor, Senator Isiaka Adeleke, during his political career.

He further claimed that Oyinlola also worked against him during his first attempt to become governor and again during his second bid, which culminated in his victory in the 2022 Osun governorship election.

Adeleke also recounted an encounter with Oyinlola after he assumed office as governor.

According to him, Oyinlola approached him and complained that he did not have a car. Adeleke said he responded by purchasing a vehicle for the former governor, but alleged that Oyinlola subsequently aligned himself with opposition forces against his administration.

Despite the former governor’s alleged opposition, Adeleke expressed confidence that the “Oyinlola factor” would have little or no impact on the outcome of the forthcoming election.

He assured supporters and residents that the former governor’s position would not determine the result of the August 15 poll.
