Following the conclusion of this meeting, an official statement was issued, instructing workers to convene at the Labour House on Monday morning.

The purpose of this gathering is to receive a briefing and update on the ongoing negotiations between the government and labor unions.

One key aspect of the negotiations between the government and the labor unions pertains to matters concerning workers’ wages and the welfare of both workers and pensioners.

Additionally, the statement issued by the unions also expressed strong condemnation for the recent assault on the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero, which occurred in Imo State.

The statement excerpt reads as follows: “We, representing the Oyo State Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC).

jointly denounce the recent attack on the National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress by the Nigerian Police in Imo State on November 2, 2023.

This incident transpired under the administration of Hope Uzodinma and the Police Force, and we perceive it as a blatant infringement on the fundamental rights and freedoms of the Nigerian labor force.

It also serves as a distressing illustration of the authoritarian inclinations exhibited by certain State Governments in their dealings with the labor movement.”
