Additionally, they sought payment of leave bonuses, gratuities for retirees stuck since 2021, and the release of promotion letters for 2021 and 2022.
In the context of broader protests, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) communicated to the Solicitor-General of the Federation and the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Justice that they have no intentions of resorting to strikes or any industrial actions.
The government had previously raised concerns about a planned protest related to the removal of petrol subsidies and its impacts on citizens.
However, the NLC, through a letter from the Falana Chambers, asserted that there is no court order restraining peaceful rallies and demonstrations on matters of public concern, emphasizing the right to exercise these rights without obstruction as long as they remain lawful.
