The Oyo State Government, led by Governor Seyi Makinde, has extended an invitation to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) for a roundtable discussion on the issue of salary deductions.

This comes in response to a protest by workers at the state secretariat in Ibadan, demanding an upward review of their allowances and expressing grievances over three months of owed deductions.

Despite financial constraints, Oyo State has implemented the N30,000 minimum wage for three years, promoted over 2,000 civil servants, and converted almost 1,000 others to regular service.

The state government emphasized that despite limited resources and a tightrope budget situation, it has undertaken significant infrastructural projects, which have been praised by the NLC.

Governor Seyi Makinde’s prudent management of state resources has defied economic predictions, and the government is committed to negotiating a realistic path that balances workers’ welfare and economic challenges.

Calling on the workers to return to their duty posts and continue their commendable work, the Oyo State Government expressed confidence in the NLC’s cooperation in finding a mutually beneficial resolution to the salary deduction issue.
