Ozekhome emphasized the necessity of a dedicated yearly budget for vulnerable members of society, warning that without such measures, the country risks fostering a dangerous segment of the population. He expressed concern that children in these communities might grow up to rebel against the government.
He stated, “When these children realize that society has denied them many privileges, they may take up arms. No one who is gainfully employed resorts to carrying guns and attacking people. Many of these bandits engage in such actions as a form of retaliation against an unwelcoming and unkind society.”
Ozekhome highlighted that those who feel deprived might view their actions as justified retaliation. “To create a just, equitable, and fair society, the government must assist these marginalized individuals,” he said.
He concluded by reminding the government of its responsibility to its citizens through welfare initiatives, as outlined in Section 14 of the Constitution, which emphasizes the importance of citizen welfare and security.
