Kekere-Ekun expressed concern over the rising number of pending cases and the low rate at which judges are resolving suits. She stated, “We must be alarmed by the increase in pending cases and the inadequate disposal rates. She noted that during the last committee meeting, some judicial officers had not delivered any judgments within a quarter, which she deemed unacceptable. “It is crucial for us to acknowledge this troubling situation and refocus on improving our judicial performance,” she added.

The CJN encouraged judicial officers to leverage information technology and case management innovations to enhance their efficiency. She also advocated for alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation and arbitration, to expedite case resolutions and help reduce the judges’ workloads.
