Asari Dokubo, leader of the Niger Delta Volunteer Force, has called on former chairmen of Rivers State’s 23 Local Government Areas to peacefully accept the end of their three-year tenure and step down.

Speaking during the 2024 Eid-el-Kabir celebrations in Port Harcourt, Dokubo emphasized that any attempt by the chairmen to extend their tenure would violate Nigeria’s Constitution and the oath they swore.

He cautioned them against provoking what he termed “people’s power,” urging them to respect the rule of law and allow for fresh elections if they seek re-election. Dokubo underscored the importance of youth vigilance in defending against self-serving individuals who may attempt to manipulate state affairs, stressing the sovereignty of the people of Rivers State over personal interests.
