Panic In Abuja As Massive Fire Engulfs Federal Mortgage Bank Headquarters

A fire broke out on Saturday at the headquarters of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) in Abuja, engulfing the upper floors of the building.

The blaze reportedly began on the fourth floor of the bank’s headquarters, located opposite the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), before spreading to the upper sections of the structure.

Emergency responders, including firefighters, were immediately deployed to the scene and were working to bring the fire under control.

A Facebook user, Praises Chukwu, who shared images of the incident, said the flames continued to spread despite ongoing efforts by the fire service.

“Mortgage Bank of Nigeria headquarters, opposite the CBN in Abuja, is currently on fire. Firefighters are doing their best to contain the blaze, but it appears to be spreading across the top floors of the building,” Chukwu wrote.

Another eyewitness, Anthony Ameh, a staff member of Zenith Bank operating within the premises, described the situation as severe.

“The fire is very intense. About four fire service trucks are on the ground, but they have not been able to put it out,” Ameh told Daily Post.

As of the time of this report, the cause of the fire had not been determined. Authorities had also not confirmed whether there were any casualties or disclosed the extent of damage to the building and its contents.
