Fresh Twist: Shehu Sani Predicts No End To Atiku And Obasanjo’s Long-Running Battle

Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has weighed in on the long-standing political rivalry between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, suggesting that the feud may only come to an end when one of them is no longer alive.

Sani made the remark in a post on on Saturday while reacting to the latest round of exchanges between the two political figures.

According to the former lawmaker, the disagreement has endured for more than two decades, outlasting several phases of Nigeria’s political evolution and spanning an entire generation.

“The Obasanjo/Atiku feud started when many members of Gen Z were still in nursery or primary school,” he wrote.

“Today, that same generation has graduated from university, gotten married and even started raising children, yet the feud continues.”

Sani argued that the rivalry is unlikely to end anytime soon, predicting that it could persist throughout their lifetimes before the surviving party eventually pays tribute to the other.

“It is likely to continue until one of them is gone, after which the other may deliver a glowing tribute,” he stated.

Using military imagery to describe their prolonged political exchanges, Sani said Atiku had once launched what he described as a “devastating bomb” at Obasanjo and had since been on the receiving end of the former president’s “hypersonic missiles.”

The latest exchange between the two political heavyweights followed Obasanjo’s recent assertion that selecting Atiku as his running mate in the 1999 presidential election was among the greatest mistakes of his political career.

Atiku served as Nigeria’s vice president under Obasanjo from 1999 to 2007. However, their relationship deteriorated during their time in office and has remained strained ever since.
