The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God addressed his congregation in a televised message that quickly gained traction online, causing him to trend on X.

“I want to apologize for my mistake in saying that if you don’t pay tithe, you might not make it to heaven. I’m sorry; that’s incorrect,” he stated, prompting a wave of murmurs from the audience.

Amidst the commotion, he added, “That’s not in the Bible. What the Bible says is to ‘be at peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see God.’”

He emphasized that “it’s possible to be right and wrong at the same time,” illustrating how we often hold beliefs that are later proven incorrect.

He noted, “For years, we believed that light travels in a straight line. But later, we discovered that light doesn’t travel in a straight line; it travels in waves.”

While he acknowledged his error regarding tithing as a requirement for salvation, he maintained that beginners should give 10 percent, while others should contribute more.

“It is wrong to limit you to ten percent,” he said. “Ten percent should be for beginners. Some people should be paying 20 percent, or even 30 percent.”

A video of his remarks is available for viewing below.
