He explained that the tragic death of Pastor Adeniyi Adisa occurred due to a misunderstanding during a shootout with suspected kidnappers on July 1, 2023, by the security outfit.
Ganzallo, who leads the So-Safe Corps, also highlighted that, during the operation, his team successfully rescued seven church members and eliminated one of the kidnappers.
The incident had its roots in an earlier attack on a Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Abule-Ori, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state. This attack resulted in the tragic killing of a pastor and the abduction of seven worshipers.
Ganzallo further revealed that Pastor Adisa had been kidnapped at a different location by the gang of criminals who attacked the church.
Addressing the press and the bereaved family members in Abeokuta on Monday, Ganzallo expressed, “It will be remembered that on July 1st, our officers responded to a distress call from the Abule-Ori community in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area.
They successfully rescued seven church members who had been kidnapped earlier at the church. Later that same night, the So-Safe Corps decided to pursue the kidnappers.
Tragically, it was during this operation, in a confrontation with the kidnappers, that the unintended incident occurred.”
Ganzallo acknowledged the unfortunate nature of the situation and expressed the organization’s regret.
He clarified that after the incident, So-Safe issued a public statement reporting the rescue of several kidnapped church members and the death of one of the kidnappers, with others escaping with gunshot wounds.
He continued, “However, during our subsequent investigation, we discovered that the individual mistakenly killed was not a kidnapper but Pastor Adeniyi Adisa from Oke Oluokun, Ibadan, Oyo State.
He had been previously kidnapped by the criminals and was presumably brought along to be released after a ransom payment, before the criminals continued with their subsequent operation.”
