During a press conference on Friday, Stephen Esumobi, the Director of Enforcement at the PCN, revealed that the pharmacies were found to be operating below the council’s required standards. “We sealed a total of 581 premises, which included 35 pharmacies, 325 patent medicine shops, and 221 illegal medicine stores,” he stated.
Esumobi instructed the Adamawa State office of the PCN to continue monitoring pharmaceutical outlets in the region to ensure compliance with regulations. He emphasized that this initiative aims to hold accountable those operating outside the established guidelines.
Despite previous meetings with pharmacy operators in the state, many have continued to disregard PCN directives issued since 2022. Esumobi noted, “Numerous illegal medicine dealers are still selling substances of abuse to the public, worsening the social and security challenges related to the misuse of these drugs.”
He issued a stern warning that any pharmacy lacking a superintendent pharmacist to oversee the dispensing of ethical medicines would face legal consequences. Additionally, he pointed out that many of the sealed premises were situated in unsuitable locations for pharmaceutical businesses, insisting that operators must relocate or face penalties.
