Alhaji Bello Usman-Suru, the state PDP Chairman, revealed this decision during a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday. He cited several concerns that led to the party’s boycott.

Usman-Suru criticized the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIECOM) leadership, stating that both the Chairman and all Commissioners are members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), raising doubts about the possibility of conducting free and fair elections.

“We have expressed our concerns about their appointments in numerous communications to the Kebbi State Government and relevant electoral bodies. Given their affiliations, we lack confidence in SIECOM’s ability to ensure a transparent election process,” Usman-Suru said.

He also condemned the introduction of administrative fees for various electoral positions, which he argued disenfranchises candidates and violates electoral fairness. The PDP Chairman noted that the deadline for fee payments was abruptly moved from August 30 to August 7, which he described as an unfair attempt to hinder opposition participation.

“The revised election guidelines appear to be designed to discourage opposition parties and manipulate the process. As such, our participation would only legitimize what we view as a flawed and manipulated electoral system,” Usman-Suru added.

He urged PDP supporters across the 21 local government areas to remain patient and focused as the party evaluates its future strategies. Usman-Suru also expressed hope that the National Assembly would pass legislation to transfer the management of local elections to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure more credible and fair elections nationwide.
