The Supreme Court’s judgment mandates that local governments, if democratically elected, must manage their finances independently. In response, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde criticized the federal government for overstepping its bounds and creating a constitutional gap that may lead to various challenges at the local level. He warned that such judicial decisions could have negative repercussions for the people, comparing the situation to “the grass suffering when two elephants fight.”

During a press conference at the PDP headquarters, National Publicity Secretary Hon. Debo Ologunagba echoed Governor Makinde’s concerns.
