Bashir made the statement on Wednesday in Abuja during the official reception of Nicholas Ossai, a former PDP member, at the APC National Secretariat.
He attributed the ongoing crisis within the opposition party to the unchecked ambitions of politicians and a lack of effective coordination. Bashir described the PDP as a “dilapidated structure” that is no longer capable of leading the country.
He praised the APC for growing stronger, while he criticized the opposition, particularly the PDP, for being embroiled in a deep crisis driven by personal ambitions and disorganization.
Bashir remarked, “Among all the political parties in Nigeria, ours is the only one that continues to grow stronger. Meanwhile, opposition parties, particularly the PDP, are facing serious internal turmoil due to excessive ambition and lack of coordination. Can Nigerians trust a party that cannot even manage its internal affairs to rule the country? Thank you for leaving that already dilapidated structure.”
Following his meeting with Bashir, Ossai, who previously represented Ndokwa East/Ndokwa West/Ukwuani of Delta State under the PDP, explained that the party’s unity had completely disintegrated. “The umbrella has broken, and the center cannot hold. You can’t play party politics when the leadership is failing. I’ve joined APC because it is actively shaping Nigeria’s future. PDP is broken, and it’s beyond repair.”
Ossai expressed his satisfaction with joining the APC and affirmed his commitment to working with the party’s leadership at the grassroots level to ensure APC’s success in Delta State in 2027. “APC will first take over the House of Assembly in my local government, which I will ensure, and by His grace, APC will win my federal constituency where I have served for 12 years,” he added.
