In a statement on Sunday, issued by the Forum’s Director-General, Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, the governors said defectors who show “genuine regret” would be welcomed back into the PDP.
The response follows criticisms from ADC leaders and some Zamfara residents over a PDP governors’ dinner in Gusau, Zamfara State, which critics labeled “insensitive” as it occurred while locals were still mourning victims of bandit attacks.
ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, called the event an “insensitive jamboree,” accusing PDP governors of disregarding the suffering of the people.
However, the PDP governors dismissed the accusations as baseless and motivated by frustration, asserting that the event had been planned well in advance.
“Ordinarily, we would have ignored them, but we need to correct the false impression being spread to the public. Unlike ADC, we do not play politics with human lives,” the statement said.
The forum emphasized that the Gusau gathering was not a social jamboree but a platform for discussing critical national issues, particularly insecurity. The governors commended Zamfara State’s efforts in tackling insecurity but expressed concern over ongoing violence in Katsina, Plateau, Niger, and Benue states.
The PDP further described ADC defectors as “prodigal children,” asserting that their exit had strengthened and unified the party.
“Since their departure, PDP has become stronger and more focused. The ADC, with its sense of entitlement, was a major obstacle to unity. That they fail to recognize the importance of these security deliberations is not surprising,” the statement added.
