The re-elected South-South Zonal Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dan Orbih, has described the ongoing crisis within the party as self-inflicted.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking at the South-South Zonal Congress in Calabar on Saturday, Orbih criticized certain party members for prioritizing personal interests over the party’s constitution.

He emphasized that the PDP should not dictate who its members associate with or consider their adversaries.

The Zonal Vice Chairman urged members to make sacrifices to revive and strengthen the party, calling for the election of leaders who uphold the party’s constitution and demonstrate integrity.

“We must adhere to the party’s guidelines to restore its strength. These guidelines are rooted in the Constitution, and the power to elect new officers must align strictly with it.

“Our party’s rebuilding must start from here. No one should dictate who an individual associates with or who their allies and adversaries should be,” Orbih stated.

Meanwhile, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has ruled out the possibility of a fresh South-South zonal congress beyond the one conducted on Saturday in Calabar, Cross River State.

Addressing delegates at the congress, Wike challenged the PDP National Working Committee (NWC), insisting that the election was valid and final.

He urged delegates to elect leaders committed to defending and protecting the party, stressing the need for strong leadership to propel the PDP forward.

“The South-South remains PDP’s strongest zone in Nigeria, and that will not change. Nowhere in the constitution does it state that a congress should be postponed due to personal engagements like weddings or travel.

“There has never been a congress where every delegate was present. The constitution grants the zone the authority to conduct a congress, not the National Working Committee. I want to assure you that today’s election is final—there will be no other zonal congress for the South-South,” Wike declared.
