Benin City, Edo State – The All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a strong condemnation following a brazen assassination attempt on its gubernatorial candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo. The attack, believed to have been orchestrated by hoodlums allegedly sponsored by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), occurred as Senator Okpebholo arrived in Benin. The tragic incident resulted in the death of his police aide, while Senator Okpebholo narrowly escaped harm.
In a move described by the APC as deplorable and morally bankrupt, the PDP has reportedly twisted the narrative, accusing the APC of being behind the violence. This attempt to deflect blame and politicize a tragedy, where a human life was lost, has been labeled as both despicable and irresponsible by the APC.
“The PDP’s actions reflect a profound moral burden that underscores their unfitness to govern,” stated Osigwe Omo-Ikirodah, Director of the APC New Media Directorate. “Instead of taking responsibility and condemning violence, they have chosen to engage in dangerous propaganda, misleading the public, and playing politics with human lives.”
The APC has called on the electorate to see through what it describes as deceitful tactics. Emphasizing the need for leaders who prioritize the safety, well-being, and development of Edo State, the APC has urged the public to reject the manipulation and fear-mongering tactics employed by the PDP.
“Edo State deserves leaders who value human life and moral integrity,” Omo-Ikirodah continued. “We remain committed to transparency, integrity, and the welfare of all Edo citizens. We urge the people of Edo State to stand firm against such manipulative strategies and support a leadership dedicated to ensuring a safer, more prosperous state for all.”
The APC’s statement ends with a call to action for the people of Edo State to support Senator Okpebholo and reject the PDP’s propaganda, emphasizing the critical importance of choosing leaders who genuinely prioritize the state’s future.
