Speaking to The PUNCH, a senator from the Northeast revealed that the PDP had no say in selecting the Senate Minority Leader, and their situation worsened as the party failed to come to their aid when needed.
The Public Accounts committee was reportedly assigned to the Social Democratic Party, which has only two members, an unprecedented move that left PDP lawmakers feeling helpless.
According to the senators, the PDP has lost its unity and purpose, with individual members prioritizing personal interests over the party’s welfare. Some lawmakers from the House of Representatives, known as the ‘new generation lawmakers,’ were accused of disregarding Senate rules and disrupting order.
The situation within the PDP has raised concerns about the party’s survival, with one lawmaker expressing doubt and pointing out that the National Working Committee appears influenced by former Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike.
The absence of a cohesive party structure has left PDP senators feeling unsupported and powerless, facing challenges in advocating for their interests and rights in the National Assembly.
