PDP Shakes Up Kano As State Working Committee Is Dissolved

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dissolved its entire State Working Committee in Kano State with immediate effect, as part of an ongoing reconciliation process within the party.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the decision was communicated in a letter dated September 24, 2026, and signed by the PDP National Organising Secretary, Umar M. Bature. The letter stated that the dissolution followed consultations by the party’s National Working Committee.

The dissolution affects the State Working Committee chaired by Dr Bello Gambo Bichi, while the party’s Ward and Local Government Area committees remain unaffected. The North-West Caretaker Committee has been directed to oversee the affairs of the Kano chapter pending the emergence of a new State Working Committee.

Reacting to the development, Bichi said he accepted his removal as a sacrifice for the unity and strengthening of the PDP in Kano. He explained that the dissolution was among the conditions agreed upon during efforts to reconcile different groups within the state chapter.

The development followed recent changes to the party’s 2027 Kano governorship arrangement. Muhammad Bello Dalhatu withdrew from the governorship race, after which Muhammad Sani Abacha was affirmed as the PDP’s replacement candidate. The party also adjusted its deputy governorship arrangement as part of the reconciliation process.

Bichi said the decision to dissolve the State Working Committee was one of the conditions attached to the reconciliation agreement, which he agreed to accept in the interest of bringing the various tendencies within the Kano PDP together.

He added that the North-West leadership would continue to supervise the party’s affairs in Kano until a new state executive is constituted through the appropriate process.
