Speaking during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Friday, George voiced his concerns over the party’s current trajectory.

The PDP, Nigeria’s leading opposition party, has been struggling with internal conflicts and leadership battles, especially following its loss in the 2023 presidential election. The turmoil has led to the emergence of several factions, with fresh controversies surrounding the National Secretary role and accusations of party leaders colluding with the ruling APC further widening the divide.

George, a former PDP Deputy National Chairman, warned that without proper management, the party could end up as “a rudderless ship,” incapable of steering itself in the right direction.

“I appeal to everyone, as an elder and one of those elected at the very first elective convention of the party in December 1999. This is not the time to use the party’s structure to betray members. I won’t support that because when you look at the list of those handling disciplinary actions, we need to be cautious. As they say, ‘when you come to equity, you must come with clean hands.’

“There are still elders in the party who can mediate and resolve these issues. We’ve crossed the first hurdle, but the responsibility to uphold justice, fairness, and equity remains. I urge them—don’t abandon the ship. It’s already in a storm, and if we’re not careful, we’ll become a rudderless ship. And a rudderless ship will sink,” George warned.
