PDP’s Southward Shift: Bala Mohammed Reveals Why He Strongly Backs Zoning Plan

Speaking in an interview with journalists on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, Mohammed noted that he was actively involved in the decision-making process and fully supports the outcome.

According to him, zoning the ticket to the South would help the PDP maintain sanity, unity, and mutual understanding within the party.

The Governor revealed that he personally sacrificed his presidential ambition in order to allow the South to take the ticket, stressing that politics should not be driven by personal interests but by collective growth, party principles, and national development.

“I’m very satisfied with the resolution because I was part of it, from the planning to the execution,” Mohammed said.

He explained that the decision—reached during the PDP NEC meeting in Ibadan, Oyo State—was aimed at sustaining the party’s zoning arrangement, especially zoning the presidency to the South-South, which he believes will foster unity and stability.

Calling on Nigerians to view politics beyond self-interest, the governor emphasized:
“Politics is about sacrifice, not selfish ambition. We must always respect each other, give room for inclusiveness, and remember that power comes from God.”

Mohammed assured that PDP governors, the NWC, and the BoT remain committed to ensuring that the party becomes the preferred choice of Nigerians, by providing equal political space for every member to achieve their aspirations.
