According to DAILY POST, Onyeka Onwenu died on Tuesday night following her attendance at Stella Okoli’s birthday celebration, the Managing Director of Emzor Pharmaceuticals.

Obi shared on his official X account that Onwenu collapsed at the event shortly after delivering a memorable performance of her classic songs. She was immediately taken to a hospital in Victoria Island, Lagos. Despite the efforts of the medical team, she was pronounced dead after approximately two hours.

Obi described the experience as devastating, noting that the tragic event would forever remain in his memory. He recounted, “I was at the event where the legendary Onyeka Onwenu performed several of her hits, including her iconic song ‘One Love Keep Us Together’. Her performance was beautiful, but it turned out to be her final one. Shortly after finishing, she sat down, drank some water, and then collapsed. She was rushed to the hospital, and I followed her there.”

He continued, “I witnessed, with deep pain, the doctors and medical staff working relentlessly to save her. Despite their best efforts, they were unable to revive her, and after over two hours of intense struggle, she was declared dead.”

Obi extended his heartfelt condolences to Onwenu’s family and loved ones, saying, “My heart goes out to her children, family, friends, and all who are mourning her loss. May we find the strength to endure this profound grief.”
