In an interview with Channels TV following a visit to Abia State Governor Alex Otti, Obi urged protesters to demonstrate peacefully and within legal bounds.

Obi attributed the August protest’s origins to widespread ‘hunger and hopelessness’ among the youth, stating, “Protest is permitted under the Nigerian Constitution. I urge all protesters to act lawfully and civilly, demonstrating our commitment to living within the law.”

He emphasized that the true ‘sponsors’ of the protest are the pervasive difficulties faced by Nigerians, urging a sympathetic understanding of their plight.

Obi also called on security agencies to manage the protests lawfully and avoid being overly aggressive. He advised, “Security agencies should handle the situation according to the law and not be overbearing. Protests are a global phenomenon. It’s essential to listen to the reasons behind the protests and engage constructively—this is central to good governance.”
