It is recalled that the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) upheld Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 election and dismissed the petitions filed by Peter Obi and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

In a statement posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Saturday, Peter Obi acknowledged that many LP supporters might be disheartened by the PEPT verdict. Nevertheless, he stressed that despair should not be considered as an option.

The former governor of Anambra State encouraged his supporters to maintain hope, as the road ahead required dedication, resilience, and determination.

He stated: “It is understandable that there has been a sense of widespread disappointment among our supporters and the broader Nigerian populace who had hoped that the outcome of the February 25th Presidential election would usher in a new and better Nigeria, as envisioned in our dreams. Although that dream has been temporarily deferred, it remains alive for all eternity.

“Since the Tribunal’s verdict, a sense of despondency has pervaded the Obidients and the majority of our supporters. I want to assure all of you that on this journey, giving in to despair or surrender is not among our options.

Today, I personally want to reach out and urge all of you to sustain your hope. In light of the challenges that lie ahead for our movement, despair is not a viable choice.

“Nothing worthwhile in life is easily achieved. Throughout history, positive transformations have only come about through sacrifice, perseverance, resilience, and the ebb and flow of fortune.

From the very beginning of our journey, I made it clear that the path we were embarking on was not a short sprint, but a long and arduous marathon. We knew it would be tough, painful, and demanding.

“We embarked on this journey fully aware that the forces arrayed against us are deeply entrenched and formidable, though not insurmountable.

They will resist the winds of change and attempt to push us toward surrender or despair. We must not succumb to their designs.

“I draw inspiration from the fact that we have persevered in the face of adversity at every turn. In such a short span of time, we have endured to the point where we can no longer be disregarded. Therefore, I implore you to persevere and never contemplate giving up.

“I want to assure you that our recent setbacks have spurred me to recommit myself to the cause of building a New Nigeria. For me, rescuing Nigeria is a lifelong commitment, and on this journey, we will remain resolute yet orderly, principled yet lawful.”
