According to Naija News, this development follows a denial from Peter Obi’s camp that the former Anambra State governor had endorsed the Abure-led National Working Committee (NWC) after their contentious convention reinstated them.

Tensions between the party leadership and Obi’s camp increased last week when Obi’s campaign team clarified that his visit to the LP’s secretariat was for reconciliation purposes and not an endorsement, contrary to media reports.

In an interview with Punch, Ndubuaku denied claims that the union had resolved its differences with the party’s embattled leader and the NWC members. He emphasized that Abure’s position was temporary and that Peter Obi could not endorse him given the dubious manner of his return to leadership.

“There is no way that Peter Obi would endorse Abure, especially in the current circumstances. You can’t criticize someone for not doing the right thing and then endorse them. It’s contradictory,” Ndubuaku said.

He recounted a meeting with Obi, stating, “I met Obi the day he was traveling out of the country. He was clear that there was no endorsement. His spokesperson, Yunusa Tanko, confirmed this after Obi’s visit to the secretariat.”

Ndubuaku highlighted that Obi’s main concern was ensuring the right actions were taken within the party. “Obi wants peace within the party. His only issue with Abure is that he’s not doing the right thing. Obi just wants things done correctly.”
