Naija News reported that on Friday, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, announced the temporary suspension of the helicopter landing fee. The announcement was made through a statement by the ministry spokesperson, Odutayo Oluseyi, stating that the suspension would allow for a review of the policy following stakeholders’ complaints.

Captain Ado Sanusi, CEO of Aero Contractors, praised the government’s decision in an interview with Daily Trust. He commended the government for listening to the concerns raised, highlighting that the levy would have negatively impacted the growth of general aviation, including helicopter operations.

The $300 helicopter landing levy was introduced by the federal government, granting the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) the authority to charge the fee. NAEBI Dynamic Concepts Limited was authorized to manage the helicopter landing fees for federal entities on behalf of NAMA.

However, due to the strong opposition from aviation stakeholders, Keyamo announced on Friday that the levy had been suspended, effective May 30, 2024, to allow for a comprehensive review. A committee has been established to address the issues raised by stakeholders and is expected to submit its report by the end of June 2024
