Obi visited the former Minister of Transportation and his wife, Dame Judith Amaechi, to express his sympathy and stand with the family during their time of grief.
reports that Amaechi’s mother died on Thursday at the age of 89.
Although details of the private meeting were not made public, Obi’s visit was seen as a gesture of solidarity with the former Rivers State governor and his family as they mourn the loss of their matriarch.
The condolence visit also reflected a rare moment of unity across political divides, despite the differing political affiliations of both leaders.
In a statement released by Amaechi’s media office following her death, the late Mary Oduah Amaechi was described as a devoted mother, respected community figure and committed Christian whose life was defined by service, faith and compassion.
The statement described her as “a cherished matriarch who held her family together in love, peace and unity.”
It further noted that she was “a community women leader and Christian leader, whose belief and faith in God was firm and resolute.”
According to the statement, the late matriarch was widely admired both within and beyond her community for her kindness, warmth and unwavering support for those around her.
“She was loved and highly respected in her community and would be remembered for her warmth, kindness and unwavering support for those around her and beyond,” the statement added.
