Nigerian singer Peter Okoye has revealed why he changed the date on which he celebrates his birthday from November 18 to November 30, saying the original date had become emotionally difficult for him over the years.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the singer made the revelation while speaking on the Capital XTRA Podcast, where he explained that November 18 had become an uncomfortable day for him because of the tension and gossip surrounding his relationship with his twin brother, Paul Okoye.

Peter said he had endured the situation for about 13 years and described November 18 as one of the worst days of his life. According to him, people would sometimes visit Paul’s residence to discuss issues concerning him before eventually coming to his side, a situation he said made the shared birthday increasingly uncomfortable.

The singer explained that although he and Paul were born on the same day, the circumstances surrounding their long-running disagreement had affected how he viewed the occasion. He therefore decided to move his personal birthday celebration to November 30.

Peter also expressed a desire to officially change the date on his documents and passport, although he acknowledged that doing so would not be straightforward.

The decision comes amid the prolonged feud between the twin brothers, which has kept the music duo P-Square apart despite their reunion in 2021. Peter’s latest comments offer insight into how the disagreement has affected his personal experience of a day that would ordinarily be a major celebration.

By choosing November 30 as his new celebration date, Peter appears to be creating a separate occasion that he can associate with happier memories away from the tension he says has surrounded November 18.
