Petrol Price Drama: NNPCL Backtracks Within 48 Hours – Nigerians React
Less than two days after raising the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has implemented a price cut at several of its retail stations.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
As of Wednesday morning, NNPCL outlets in key areas of Abuja—Gwarinpa, Kubwa Expressway, Wuse Zone 6, and Wuse Zone 4—reduced the pump price from ₦955 to ₦900 per litre.
A pump attendant at one of the stations, who preferred not to be named, confirmed the change, saying, “We sold at ₦955 on Tuesday, but the price has now dropped to ₦900 per litre.”
The ₦55 reduction comes after Monday’s sharp increase to ₦955, which had sparked concern among consumers.
Some independent marketers have also revised their prices, though not as significantly. For instance, Ranoil and Empire Energy stations in Gwarinpa now dispense fuel at ₦955 and ₦950 respectively, down from ₦971 and ₦970. MRS stations, however, have kept their price steady at ₦885—unchanged since earlier in the week.
The earlier price hike was linked to rising ex-depot rates, especially from private suppliers like Dangote Refinery.
While NNPCL’s price reduction may offer temporary relief, it remains uncertain if other stations across the country will follow suit. Consumers continue to express frustration over volatile fuel pricing, which is further compounding transportation costs and everyday living expenses nationwide.
