Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Hassan downplayed concerns about insufficient infrastructural development from the federal government to the North. Instead, he emphasized that social fragmentation is the region’s core issue.

He criticized groups like the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) and certain opposition elements, arguing that they do not genuinely represent the interests of the Northern people.

“Our problem is not roads or buildings,” Hassan declared. “What we truly need is unity—across ethnic and religious boundaries.”

He highlighted the North’s vast natural and economic resources, stressing that with proper unity and collaboration, the region could thrive without over-reliance on federal infrastructure projects.

“The ACF and some opposition voices are not working for the good of the North. We challenged them under President Buhari and will continue to do so,” he said.

“An Idoma man still cannot govern Benue State. A Muslim in Plateau can’t become Speaker. A Christian minority in Borno can’t aspire to be governor. These are our real problems—tribalism and religious discrimination,” he added.

Hassan concluded by calling for a collective Northern identity and urged the federal government to collaborate with the region on its rich agricultural potential.

“We have 424 local governments, each full of untapped resources. Our land is fertile and abundant. What we need is partnership, not pity.”
