[Photos] Super Falcons Touch Down In Rabat In Style As Theft Allegations Rock WAFCON

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have arrived in Rabat, Morocco, ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where they will begin the defence of their continental title with hopes of securing a record-extending 11th championship.

The team, led by head coach Justine Madugu, travelled to the Moroccan capital after wrapping up a 10-day training camp in Casablanca. Their preparations ended on a high note with a 2-1 victory over Tanzania’s Twiga Stars in an international friendly on Thursday.

The Falcons made a stylish entrance in Rabat, dressed in matching green-and-white tie-dye traditional outfits complemented by coordinated headwraps, reflecting Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage.

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade and AFC Toronto forward Esther Okoronkwo were on target in the win over Tanzania, giving the nine-time African champions added confidence ahead of the tournament.

The Super Falcons also unveiled a special commemorative jersey before the competition. The kit features 10 stars encircling the team’s badge, with each star symbolising one of Nigeria’s previous WAFCON titles.

The players first wore the jersey during their victory over Tanzania and will be aiming to earn an 11th star by lifting the trophy once again in Morocco.

Nigeria will play all three of their Group C matches in Rabat. The Super Falcons open their campaign against tournament debutants Malawi at Al Madina Stadium on Tuesday before taking on Zambia’s Copper Queens at the same venue. Their final group-stage fixture will be against Egypt’s Cleopatras at the Olympic Stadium.

Despite their successful preparations on the pitch, the team’s stay in Casablanca was overshadowed by allegations of theft at the Marriott Hotel.

The claims surfaced after Esther Okoronkwo posted on Snapchat, alleging that cash had disappeared from her room while the squad was preparing for the tournament.

“This hotel, Marriott in Casablanca, just stole a lot of people’s money from their wallets! They just stole 500 USD from me. They stole a couple of dollars from my teammate,” she initially wrote.

She later updated the amount, saying: “Guys, I did my calculations wrong. They actually stole $700, not $500 USD.”

Okoronkwo further alleged that housekeeping staff were responsible, claiming they took advantage of the players’ absence to remove money from their wallets.

She also accused hotel officials of failing to provide satisfactory explanations after the incident was reported, alleging that some staff members became disrespectful during discussions.

Super Falcons Media Officer Mary Cathryn confirmed that complaints had been lodged by members of the team and said the matter had been reported to the appropriate Moroccan authorities for investigation.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Marriott Hotel Casablanca nor the Confederation of African Football (CAF) had issued an official statement on the allegations.
