Plateau Massacre, CAN Urges Tinubu To Prevent Nigeria From Descending Into Unruliness

Expressing deep concern, Sunday Oibe, the Northern CAN Secretary, issued a statement in Kaduna, emphasizing the need for decisive action and expressing hope that this incident would not be overlooked like previous ones. Oibe urged President Bola Tinubu not to allow Plateau or any part of the country to become an ungovernable territory during his administration.

The Northern CAN Secretary highlighted the urgency of implementing the President’s directive to ensure that those responsible for the heinous act are brought to justice. Oibe stressed that such directives should not be mere rhetoric but concrete actions to address the recurring attacks.

He lamented the consistent suffering of Plateau State at the hands of terrorists and bandits during the democratic dispensation, describing the recent attack as “barbarism” that exceeds even the brutality seen in the animal kingdom.

The statement conveyed the association’s deep sadness over the unacceptable norm of violence in Nigeria, where perpetrators often go unpunished. Oibe emphasized that President Tinubu must ensure that security agencies follow through with the directive to apprehend the culprits, asserting that no society can progress when criminals freely wield sophisticated weapons, causing harm without facing consequences.

Oibe underscored the importance of halting the cycle of violence and preventing any part of Nigeria, particularly Plateau, from descending into ungovernability due to the activities of criminal elements. He urged decisive action to end the menace, recognizing that the Nigerian people are already grappling with various challenges.

The statement concluded with expressions of condolence to the families of the victims, the government, and the people of Plateau State. The Northern CAN offered prayers for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the unfortunate incident.
