The assault, which plunged the farming community into grief, was confirmed on Sunday by the Executive Chairman of Qua’an-Pan LGA, Christopher Audu Manship.
In a statement released by his Director of Press and Publicity, Danaan Cletus Sylvanus, Manship said the attackers intentionally singled out Christians during the raid.
According to the statement, the gunmen invaded the village, killing residents, injuring several others, and setting homes and valuable properties on fire.
“The assailants deliberately targeted Christians in the community. They injured an unspecified number of people and destroyed houses and properties estimated to be worth billions of naira,” the statement said.
Manship condemned the violence, describing it as a brutal and senseless act, and expressed deep sorrow over the loss of innocent lives.
“The chairman is profoundly saddened by the attack and is working with security agencies to ensure those responsible are apprehended and brought to justice,” Sylvanus added.
He noted that the local government is collaborating with security operatives to restore peace and prevent further attacks in the area.
A resident of Bong village, Lawrence Dogari, also confirmed the incident, warning that the death toll could rise as several villagers sustained injuries and others remain missing.
“At the moment, I can confirm that more than seven people have been killed, many others were injured, and some residents are still unaccounted for,” Dogari said.
Following the attack, many residents have fled their homes out of fear, while calls have intensified for the Plateau State Government and security agencies to strengthen security presence to prevent further loss of lives and property.
The incident adds to the growing wave of violence in Plateau State, as affected communities continue to demand decisive action to halt the recurring killings and destruction.
