A viral video shows a boy alleging that the teenager, who was reportedly not participating in the protest but was merely passing by, was shot by the police. The boy also claimed that officers had previously aimed their guns at him and others before the teenager was fatally injured.
In response, SP Josephine Adeh, the Command’s spokesperson, denied these allegations. She stated that the officers deployed in that area were equipped only with anti-riot gear, not lethal weapons, and therefore could not have caused the teenager’s death.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Benneth C. Igweh, has ordered an immediate investigation into the death to determine its actual cause. He urged residents to provide any information that could assist the inquiry.
Adeh extended condolences to the teenager’s family and assured them and the public that efforts are underway to bring those responsible to justice. She also cautioned against misinformation being spread by individuals seeking to exploit the situation.
