Police Deny Senator Sani’s Claims Of EndSARS Protesters’ Detention

The Police have rebutted Senator Shehu Sani’s assertion that any #EndSARS protesters remain detained, clarifying that no such individuals are currently in custody.

ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, issued a statement titled “Democracy Day: Police Clarifies, Refutes Senator Sani’s Misleading Claims,” dismissing Sani’s allegations as inaccurate.

The statement emphasized that no one has been unlawfully held by the Nigeria Police Force or any other security agency in connection with the 2020 #EndSARS protests.

It noted that all arrests have been conducted in accordance with legal procedures, with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos pardoning about 100 suspects arrested during the protests. The police reiterated that no one in Nigeria is currently detained or unfairly persecuted for participating in the #EndSARS demonstrations, concluding that comprehensive discussions, research, and lessons learned have addressed the issues surrounding the protests.
