The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended Felix Nwaobakata, a local vigilante member and commander of the ONELGA Security and Peace Advisory Committee (OSPAC), in possession of two human skulls and other body parts at his hideout in Omoku, the headquarters of Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area of the State. This arrest follows allegations linking Nwaobakata to the murder of two brothers in Idu, Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni LGA on May 1, 2024, under suspicion of being kidnappers.
According to Grace Iringe-Koko, the spokesperson for the State Police Command, Nwaobakata and other OSPAC members have been the subject of numerous complaints regarding their activities, particularly in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA. Recent incidents include an attack on a police division in Omoku and clashes with other security agencies.
In a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, Iringe-Koko stated, “The Rivers State Police Command has initiated measures to curtail the activities of vigilante groups across the State, prompted by ongoing concerns surrounding the ONELGA Security and Peace Advisory Committee, especially in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA, and their confrontations with other security entities.”
She further detailed the events leading to Nwaobakata’s arrest, including his evasion of police summons and an attempted assault on a police station, which was successfully repelled by law enforcement. As a result, tactical units of the command raided the OSPAC camp in Omoku, leading to the arrest of several individuals, including Nwaobakata, who was apprehended at his hideout on June 17, 2024, where the human remains were discovered.
Nwaobakata is also implicated in the murder case of Collins Ugorji (32) and Newman Ugorji (39) from the Idu Community in ONELGA, according to the police statement.
