Social Media Critic, Reno Omokri has poured his voice into the recent video that surfaced on the internet of Seun Kuti’s document being raided by the Police in the name of “investigation”.
He claimed that corrupt politicians have never been treated in such a way. Nigerians never witnessed any law enforcement agency treating Diezani who stole over 80 billion dollars like this, neither Buhari’s AGF who stole 80 billion, Babachir Lawal, Godswill Akpabio who is dodging from EFCC amongst others. Omokri, 49 claimed “handcuffing and parading Seun is extreme” but “invading his house to search it appears” to be overkill.
He wrote; “Arresting, handcuffing and parading Seun, though extreme, may have been within the reasonable purview of the Police in this particular case. But invading his house to search it appears like an overkill. For a brief period, public sympathy was with the police. However, that appears to be dissipating quickly. This is now looking like a witch-hunt. He slapped a policeman in the heat of the moment. Condemnable as that was, it is, at worst, a misdemeanour. Did we see the police raiding the home of those who committed greater crimes? Like Buhari’s friend, Babachir Lawal, who stole hundreds of millions of public funds? Or the residence of Ahmed Idris, Buhari’s former Accountant General of the Federation, who stole ₦;80 billion? This is now looking like a vendetta!.”
He added that the Police didn’t invade the house of the Adamawa INEC REC who went to hide, “When the Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Yunusa Ari, disappeared, did the police invade his house? Yet, even after Seun Kuti surrendered himself to the police, they handcuffed him, paraded him like a common criminal, and raided his home. All because he slapped a policeman, which is, at worse, a misdemeanor. This looks like malice. This looks like institutional bias. ”
