Speaking on Saturday in Ado Ekiti during a public lecture titled “The Role of Media in Promoting National Peace and Security,” which was part of the 2024 annual press week of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ekiti Council, the DIG emphasized the importance of avoiding sensationalism. “Reportage should be accurate, balanced, and unbiased to prevent the escalation of tensions. Journalists should refrain from using sensational or emotive language that could trigger security issues,” he said.

He further warned, “Stop giving insurgents unnecessary attention or promotion. By doing so, you help them achieve their aim of disrupting national peace. We must also focus on protecting Nigeria’s cyberspace and electronic infrastructure from criminal interference.”

Alabi also called for the creation of programs to prevent terrorists from financing their activities and for technical assistance to allies in strengthening their capacities. Ekiti NUJ Chairman, Kayode Babatuyi, praised the DIG for the insightful lecture and affirmed that journalists would continue prioritizing national peace and security in their work.
