Police Disrupt Secret Cult Meeting, Capture Notorious Gang Member Masquerading As Cop In Rivers

Operatives from the Rivers State Police Command have detained a notorious cultist and armed robber who had been masquerading as a police officer to commit various crimes.

State Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, revealed this during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Port Harcourt on Thursday, September 12, 2024. The fake inspector, identified as Fred Monday, was paraded alongside other suspects.

The CP explained that Fred Monday was apprehended during a raid on a cult initiation involving students from the Ken Saro Wiwa Polytechnic. Monday, who admitted to being a member of the Iceland cult group, was providing cover for the students during the initiation.

Recovered from Monday were an AK-47 rifle, ten magazines, and twenty-nine rounds of live ammunition.

On August 9, 2024, at approximately 11:45 PM, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Rivers State Police Command acted on an intelligence tip-off about a criminal operation in Luegbo Community, Khana Local Government Area. Upon arrival, they discovered an ongoing brutal cult initiation and arrested five suspects, who were later identified as students from Ken Saro Wiwa Polytechnic.

The students—Mduni Clement, Prosper Wonyingipreye, Kunle Joseph, Eken Evans, and Isaiah Elisha—confessed to being members of the Vikings confraternity. They have since been charged in court and are currently held in a correctional facility.

During the arrest, police encountered a man dressed in police camouflage, posing as an Inspector. He was armed with an AK-47 rifle, ten magazines, and twenty-nine rounds of ammunition. The man, Fred Monday, 31, from Wiyakara Community in Khana Local Government Area and residing at F-man Close, Eneka Link Road, Port Harcourt, was taken into custody.

Monday admitted to purchasing the rifle for NGN 850,000 in 2021 from an accomplice named Goodluck, aka Boy-J. He also procured additional magazines, ammunition, and two hand grenades from the same source. Monday disclosed that he and his gang would dress as policemen to facilitate criminal activities in various states, including Akwa-Ibom, Edo, Delta, and Rivers.

In addition to his cult activities, Monday engaged in armed robbery, operating as a tricycle rider during the day to scout for potential victims.
